June 26, 2007 - Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The SPHL wrapped up the 2007 summer meetings by voting unanimously to name Jim Combs as the new Commissioner and announcing that Bill Coffey will remain as the Director of Hockey Operations.

Combs has been with SPHL as the Director of Officiating for the past 3 years. He has over 15 years experience in professional hockey working with USA Hockey, the ECHL, AHL and NHL. He also has a 10 year background in hospitality, golf course management and customer service at a 4 star, 4 diamond resort property.

"I am honored to be named as the commissioner of the SPHL," Combs said. "It has been a goal of mine to work full-time in the sport that has been a longtime passion of mine. I look forward to working with all the Owners, GM's and reaffirming our relationships with all other minor leagues."

The Board also voted unanimously to name Jerome Bechard (GM, Columbus Cottonmouths) as Chairman of the board, replacing Keith Jefferies, who served as Chairman for the past three years and his term had expired. Mike Murray (Knoxville Ice Bears) was also named as the Vice Chairman.

"I feel that over the past three years we have established ourselves as the best Single-A hockey league," Bechard said. "Hiring Jim Combs and restructuring our league operations reinforces our commitment to the future growth of our league."
