La Crosse Spartans News Release

La Crosse, WI: La Crosse Spartans General Manager Chris Kokalis continues his hard work to improve on the team's 3-11 finish in 2010 with another defensive signing today. Former Morehead State All-American linebacker Wes McDermott signed a contract with the team over the weekend.

McDermott, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, was named to the Associated Press Third Team All-American squad and was named the Pioneer Football League (PFL) Defensive Player of the Year in 2009. McDermott was also named to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team.

The 6'0", 245-pound linebacker finished his career in the top five of MSU's career tackles list at 316 total tackles. McDermott notched 48 tackles-for-loss in his career which puts him 19th in FCS history and he averaged 1.09 tackles-for-loss throughout his career which puts him tied for 24th all-time in the FCS.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue my career and I am excited to play for the Spartans," said McDermott. "I am honored to be playing for Coach Brown who was a great player in the NFL. It will be great to learn from him with all of the experience he brings to the team."

The Spartans, entering their second season in the Indoor Football League, were named the 2010 IFL Community Relations Franchise of the Year for their efforts in the community this past season. Season tickets are now on sale for the 2011 season for as low as $84 and can be purchased by calling 608-782-4461 or by visiting www.lacrossespartans.com.
