BIG GAME PLAYOFF HOCKEY! Tonight is the third game in the best-of-seven series to determine the playoff champion of the Central Hockey League's Southern Conference. This is also the third Bucks home game in the team's inaugural playoff season. The Bucks lead the Central Hockey League in playoff attendance with an average of 7,443 fans per game. The Bucks finished second to Oklahoma City in regular-season attendance with an average of 6,683 fans per game at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Not including tonight, 228,743 fans have come to the LEC to see the Bucks play.
CHAPARRAL: The Austin Ice Bats have played their first four playoff home games at Chaparral Ice Center in Austin. Laredo Bucks 3 (3-7 vs. Ice Bats) STARS ON THE BORDER: The CHL's Southern Conference Finals features no less than ten participants in the Central Hockey League All-Star Game. Bucks Eric Schneider, Michel Periard and Chris Grenville combined for six of the Southern Conference squad's ten goals in a 10-6 win against the Northern Conference on January 23 in Oklahoma City. Grenville scored four goals and was named the All-Star MVP. The Ice Bats were represented by starting goaltender Matt Barnes, defensemen Mike Gaffney and Darryl McArthur, All-Star captain Kelly Smart, coach Brent Hughes, trainer Clint Shuman and equipment manager Gunner Garrett. Barnes, named the CHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender, and Schneider were MVP finalists. Periard was named Most Outstanding Defenseman. In Coach of the Year balloting, Hughes finished second to his former assistant, Ken McRae of Indianapolis.
