South Coast League Signs 16 For 2007 Season

November 14, 2006 - South Coast League (SCL) News Release

CONYERS, GA - The South Coast League of Professional Baseball, the southeast's newest independent baseball league, is pleased to announce the signings of sixteen players to their league for the upcoming season.

On Saturday afternoon, Lakewood Ranch Park in Bradenton, FL played host to approximately 70 participants eager to become part of the newly formed South Coast League of Professional Baseball. With area scouts and numerous league officials on hand it was an exciting showcase of talent for all in attendance.

Players took part in multiple drills including timed sprints, extensive fielding practice, and rounds of batting practice. After a limited cut was made, the remaining players participated in a controlled game that allowed players to face live pitching from fellow try-out hopefuls. In the end, the day was a tremendous success and gave the South Coast League their initial talent pool.

After the try-out was completed, league and team officials conducted the first ever SCL player draft, which resulted in 16 players signing SCL contracts for the Inaugural season in May of 2007. Because the draft was conducted on a need basis, all teams did not end up with the same amount of players.
