Seattle Sounders News Release

The Seattle Sounders announced today that they will play an exhibition match against the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer (MLS) on April 7 in Kansas City.

"Matches against teams like the Wizards help us to build the best program possible here in Seattle," said Sounders General Manager Adrian Hanauer. "When Wizards assistant coach Chris Henderson contacted me with the idea, it made perfect sense."

Henderson was instrumental in making the match happen. The Seattle native was an original member of MLS and during his career he played 317 matches for the Colorado Rapids, Miami Fusion, Columbus Crew and Red Bull New York. Henderson's brother Sean played with the Sounders in 2003 and 2004.

The match is part of an ongoing effort by the Sounders to build relationships with Major League Soccer and work to bring high level professional teams to Seattle. As part of the deal, the Wizards will come to Seattle at a future date for an exhibition against the Sounders.

"A preseason road trip to face a team like the Wizards can teach you a lot about your team," said Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer.

The Wizards finished fifth in the Eastern Conference of MLS last season and features U.S. Internationals Jimmy Conrad, Kerry Zavagnin and Eddie Johnson on their roster. There regular season starts a week after the match with the Sounders on April 14 at D.C. United.

The Sounders kick off their season on April 21 on the road against the defending USL First Division Champion Vancouver Whitecaps. The home opener is May 5 against the Portland Timbers. Season tickets and ticket packages are available starting at just $72.
