Seattle Sounders News Release
(Seattle, WA) â Three Seattle Sounders are busy this off-season playing in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL).
Sounder midfielder and 2002 A-League MVP Leighton O'Brien is on the Milwaukee Wave roster. He wrapped up the Sounders season with 13 goals and 11 assists.
"I play indoor to stay in shape and stay sharp," said O'Brien from his Milwaukee apartment. "The indoor season runs right up to the start of the A-League season so it works out perfectly.
The Cleveland Force, coached by Andy Schmetzer, brother of Sounder head coach Brian Schmetzer, feature two Sounder players. Andrew Gregor and Zach Scott both suit up for the Cleveland indoor squad.
"I've actually never played indoor before but came out here and have found it to be great," said first team All A-League member Gregor. "The game is quick and you have to make split-second decisions which will help my outdoor game.
Gregor finished the 2002 season with nine goals and three assists. He scored the first professional goal in Seahawks Stadium on July 28, 2002 when the Sounders defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 4-1. The game was the first sporting event in the stadium and the crowd of 25,515 smashed the former A-League attendance record.
Scott was a rookie with the Sounders in 2002, playing in 16 games and notching two goals. He graduated from Gonzaga University.
