Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA - On Sunday, June 15 the Philadelphia Soul will join the FOP, IBEW Local Union 98 and Bonks Bar and Grille in helping to support the Sergeant Stephen Liczbinski Father's Day Benefit during an old-fashioned block party from 1-5 p.m. outside Bonks Bar and Grille (3467 Richmond Street).
Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski was fatally shot and killed on May 3 while responding to a bank roberry call in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia. The Soul felt it was of most importance to honor Sgt. Liczbinski on this Father's Day because of the fact that he is survived by his wife and three children, who are now in need of care and support.
"Sgt. Liczbinski gave his life to protect us, and the least we can do is give back to his family and friends and show our support," Soul general manager Rich Lisk said. "This was something we felt it was our responsibility to take part in. We're more than a football team; we are role models and active participants in the community."
The block party will feature Soul players, Soulmates (dance team) and an auction of Soul merchandise. All benefits go to the Liczbinski family. The Soul Band & Drum Line, a moon bounce, DJ, dunk tank, and a special station featuring Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski's police car will also be featured.
The Liczbinski Father's Day Benefit will run from 1 pm until 5 pm and is located outside of Bonks Bar and Grille; 3467 Richmond Street, Philadelphia (Corner of Richmond & Tioga). The event participation donation is $30 for adults, kids age 10 and under are free and those over the age of 10 have a participation donation of $10. The donation provides street event admission, food and beverages.
Private donations to the Liczbinski family by check or money order may be made to: "Liczbinski Family", c/o Bonks Bar & Grille, 3467 Richmond Street, Philadelphia, PA. 19134.
The Soul are celebrating their fifth anniversary this season. The team has drawn an AFL-best 514,226 fans combined during the past four years. Following last season, the Soul were recognized with the Commissioner's Award as the Organization of the Year and were an honorable mention for the PRISM Award in the category of fan appreciation.
