For the second time this season, the Pittsburgh Power took a beating from their cross-state rival as the Philadelphia Soul continue their winning ways with a 69-34 victory.
The Power offense struggled all evening long, coming up empty on seven possessions, including a fumble and two interceptions.
The offensive woes started right from the get-go when a stalled drive led to a blocked Geoff Boyer field goal attempt. Lucky for the Power, Chris LeFlore picked off Dan Raudabaugh's first pass attempt of the night. The turnover enabled Pittsburgh to light up the scoreboard first as Bryan Randall found Oderick Turner in the red zone for the score.
Philadelphia scored on their next possession to tie the ball game up at 7 to end the first quarter.
The Soul defense continued to show its dominance in the second quarter as they stopped the Power on downs. But luck continued to favor the Power as Soul fullback Derrick Ross coughed up the ball on the goal line that was recovered by Pittsburgh.
After catching a second break, Randall and the Power offense went to work. Randall targeted big-framed A.J. Jackson, seeing his first action on the season, four times on the drive, yielding three catches and a score to put the Power up 13-7.
From there, it was all Soul for the remainder of the half. After Raudabaugh hit Larry Brackins over the back wall to tie up the game at 13, the Soul defense made two stops holding the Power on downs once again and getting an interception out of Rayshaun Kizer. Both turnovers were capitalized on by Donovan Morgan who scored on the ground and through the air to give Philadelphia a 27-13 lead heading into halftime.
The Soul got the ball to start the third quarter and continued what they started in the first half. After getting a big kickoff return from Jeff Hughley, Raudabaugh and the Soul offense executed the tight end screen to perfection as Greg Ryan crossed the plane to increase the Soul lead to 21.
After Randall and Raudabaugh threw twin touchdowns to Turner and Tiger Jones to cancel out any change in point differential, Kizer picked off his tenth pass on the season helping Philly increase their lead to 28 as Raudabaugh and Hughley hooked up on a bomb.
Randall and Turner would connect for their third score on the night, but Philadelphia would continue to answer and pile on to their lead. Raudabaugh and Jones also hooked up for their third time on the night, which was followed up by a Justin Warren 48-yard fumble return for a score to go up 62-27. A Derrick Ross score late would make it 69-27.
Randall ended the night of scoring with a second touchdown pass to Jackson to lessen the deficit, but not by much. Philadelphia would wind down the clock to walk away with their fifth straight win, 69-34.
The Division Champion Soul will look to continue their winning ways next week as they head to Tampa Bay to take on a team fighting for a division championship.
As for the Power, they travel to Iowa to look to exact revenge on the Barnstormers next Saturday night.
