Soul sign WR Holmes

PHILADELPHIA (Friday, May 16) - One day after placing starting wide receiver Kenny Henderson on injured reserve, the Philadelphia Soul have signed receiver Brent Holmes. The Soul also signed defensive lineman Mondre Dickerson to the practice squad on Friday.

After posting a game high of eight catches for 156 yards and three touchdowns during the season opener in 2008, Holmes was waived by the Georgia Force and later picked up by the Tampa Bay Storm where he played in four regular season games. Holmes then joined the Grand Rapids Rampage where he appeared in no games before being signed off the practice squad by the Soul.

Holmes played in one regular season game in 2007 and also in the National Conference Championship Game for the Force where he recorded nine catches for 89 yards along with 76 kickoff return yards.

Before joining the Force in 2007 Holmes was a member of the Green Bay Blizzard of af2. In 2004 Holmes played his only year in the Indoor Football League for the Corpus Christie Hammerheads. Holmes attended college at Texas A&M Kingsville where he was the teammate of current Soul defensive back Eddie Moten.

Holmes will wear jersey No. 15 and is expected to be available for Saturday's game against the Columbus Destroyers.

Dickerson joins the Soul after being a member of the Cleveland Gladiators where he played three games in 2008. Dickerson accumulated five tackles, two and a half sacks as well as a pass defended. During his three year career in the AFL, Dickerson has been a member of the New York Dragons, Grand Rapids Rampage and the Orlando Storm. Dickerson played two seasons at the University of Tennessee before coming to the AFL.

The Philadelphia Soul (9-2), YOUR Team...YOUnited, continues the 2008 season on Saturday against the Columbus Destroyers (2-8) at the Wachovia Center. The game starts at 7 p.m. (et) and can be seen live on Comcast SportsNet and heard locally on 950 ESPN and www.950ESPN.com.

The Soul are celebrating their fifth anniversary this season. The team has drawn an AFL-best 514,226 fans combined during the past four years.
