PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Soul came up short to the Georgia Force at the Wachovia Center in front of 14,583 fans and dropped the Soul from being one of the final two unbeaten teams.
The Soul began the game exchanging scores throughout the first quarter before Georgia was able to force Sean Scott to fumble the ball with 11:06 to play in the second quarter. The Force then took advantage and increased the lead to 14 at 28-14. Philadelphia was then forced into playing catch-up the remainder of the game. They went into the locker room 35-28 knowing they were going to get the ball to start the third quarter when the Force were to kick off.
On the first drive of the second half, Philadelphia marched down the field before Wes Ours lost the ball at the one-yard line and was recovered by Georgia's Willie Gary. The Force capped off the turnover when quarterback Chris Greisen found Offensive Player of the Game Troy Bergeron in the endzone for a 7-yard touchdown. The score extended Georgia's lead to 42-28 and was followed up by a Tony Graziani interception during the Soul's next drive.
Georgia went up by 20 points after fullback John Richter punched in a one-yard score and Philadelphia saw themselves behind by their biggest deficit of the season.
The Soul began to mount a comeback late in the game and ended up cutting the Force lead down to five after Idris Price rumbled his way into the endzone for six with 3:48 remaining in the contest with the score set at 54-49 after a Todd France extra point.
The Force would tack on a field goal with :12 remaining by Xavier Beitia and help increase the Georgia lead and give them the eventual victory.
Greisen finished the day completing 22-of-29 for 344 yards with seven touchdowns despite one interception. He connected with Bergeron eight times for 182 yards with four scores.
For Philadelphia, Graziani completed 22-of-36 for 266 yards with three scores and one interceptions.
