PHILADELPHIA (April 17, 2014) - The Defending, Back-to-Back American Conference Champion Philadelphia Soul announce the acquisition of 2013 Second Team All-Arena defensive back, Fred Shaw (6'2, 220, Central Oklahoma) in a trade with the San Antonio Talons to fulfill the future considerations for defensive back, Kyle Whitehurst earlier in the week.

"We had the opportunity to get some talent in an area of need and we jumped on it," said Soul head coach, Clint Dolezel. "Fred is a versatile athlete who has a proven track record in the AFL. We are excited to get him here to give us a lift in our secondary."

So far this season, Shaw has recorded 22.0 total tackles and one pass breakup with the Talons. In 2013, he tallied 64.5 total tackles, 11 interceptions, two forced fumbles and a team-leading 16 pass breakups. In 2012, Shaw set a single-season franchise-record 120.0 total tackles to go along with a team-high eight interceptions for San Antonio.

The fifth-year AFL veteran notched 69.0 total tackles and six interceptions with the Tulsa Talons in 2011. During his Rookie Season in 2010, he collected 74.5 tackles and two interceptions with one touchdown with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. In his collegiate days, Shaw was selected First Team All-Conference as a junior at Central Oklahoma.
