
Soo's VanWormer Deadly on Offense in 5-2 Win

Behind a great game by Jared VanWormer, who had two goals, the Soo Eagles defeated the Johnstown Tomahawks, 5-2. VanWormer scored on the power play at 16:21 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and again while 19:53 into the second to make the score 3-2 Soo.
Soo's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Johnstown power plays. The Eagles' offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.7 shots per game they average.
Soo additionally got points from Alexander Taulien, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Chris Waterstreet also scored for Soo. More assists for Soo came via Kyle Froese, Alex Robert, Brandon Adams, and Sean Murphy, who contributed one a piece and Kyle Loridon and Eric Rivard, who each chipped in two.
Soo was unable to stop Johnstown from sending pucks towards the net, and the Tomahawks eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.
Johnstown was helped by Mitch Kontny, who tallied one goal. Kontny scored 55 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Cody Gylling assisted on the tally. Johnstown also got points from Gylling, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Johnstown were Jordan Watt, who had one.
Tyler Marble recorded 38 saves for the Eagles. Soo totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Chris Truehl made 34 saves for the Tomahawks on 39 shots. Johnstown ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
