The Soo Eagles were firing on all cylinders against the Jamestown Ironmen, and when the final buzzer sounded Eagles emerged with a 5-1 win.
Jamestown was stymied by Soo netminder Tyler Marble, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. Marble certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.2 entering the contest.
Sean Murphy had two goals to lead the Eagles to victory. Murphy scored at 18:13 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Soo and again while 6:39 into the second to make the score 3-0 Soo.
The Soo penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game the Eagles had been spending in the box. The 30 shots that Soo put on net surpassed the Eagles' average of 26.1 shots per game this season.
Jared VanWormer also scored for Soo. In addition, Soo received assists from Brandon Adams, who had three and Cody Von Reuden, Pat Thompson, Dante Suffredini, and Mike Sabatini, who contributed one a piece.
The Ironmen racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. Jamestown surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Ironmen's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Soo power plays. Jamestown's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Ironmen give up 2.5 goals per game.
Jamestown's Tim Shaughnessy stopped 25 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Ironmen registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
