Blizzard Come Back to Beat Austin
February 2, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Brookings Blizzard News Release
The Brookings Blizzard over came a two-goal deficit in the first period to edge the first place Austin Bruins 4-3 at home Friday night.
Things looked bleak for the Blizzard in the first period after the Bruins' AJ Reid recorded in hat trick, scoring three goals in a ten-minute span. Reid netted his first two goals at the 4:13 and 10:59 marks.
Matt Youso, who has moved from defense to forward the last few games, scored the Blizzard's first goal at the 11:50 mark of the first.
It was Reid again who intercepted a pass at the Blizzard blue line and took it all the way to the goal to get the unassisted goal at the 14:30 mark.
After the break the Blizzard came looking like a new team. Playing much more physical and in sync the next two periods, the Blizzard came alive and tied the game in the second. Thomas Williams scored off of passes from Eetu Karvinen and Nick DeCenzo at the 10:27 mark. With 2:14 left to play in the period, Aidan Cavallini scored the Blizzard's third goal to tie the game 3-3. Drew Brevig and Brandon Parker got the assists. Parker was playing in his first game back with the Blizzard after playing much of the season with the Sioux Falls Stampede.
At the 5:43 mark of the third period, Eetu Karvinen scored what would prove to be the game winner. Assist from Aidan Cavallini and newcomer Reed Whiteside.
Blizzard goaltender Drew Weigman got the win with 27 saves on 30 shots.
The Blizzard remain in third place behind Austin and Bismarck in the Central Division. On Friday, Bismarck beat Minot 2-1 in overtime at Maysa Arena in Minot, ND. In Aberdeen, the Wings snapped an 18-game losing streak by beating the Coulee Region Chill 6-5.
The Blizzard will travel to Austin tonight to take on the Bruins. The puck will drop at 7:05pm and can be seen on Fasthockey.com.
