Sockers Sign Veteran Defender Jonatan Santos

January 17, 2014 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
San Diego Sockers News Release

The San Diego Sockers today came to terms with free agent defender Jonatan Santos on a contract for the remainder of the 2013-14 Professional Arena Soccer League season. Santos signed with the team on January 16th and trained with the team that night in advance of Saturday's game against the Bay Area Rosal.

Santos, a 29-year-old out of Sergipe, Brazil, will wear jersey #26 with the Sockers.

"The Sockers are very excited to welcome Jonatan Santos to the Sockers family," said San Diego Sockers general manager John Kentera, "Santos came highly recommended. He plays a hundred miles an hour, and is a tough, gritty player. Jonatan comes from a strong organization in Milwaukee and should fit in well to help out our back line as we pursue a fifth consecutive PASL championship."

Santos comes to the Sockers after six seasons with the MISL Milwaukee Wave, where he was part of the Wave's 2010-11 and 2011-12 MISL championship teams. Last season an ACL injury limited Santos to sixteen games, but he still finished fifth on the team with 17 blocked shots. In total Santos played 84 games in Milwaukee, recording 21 goals, 21 assists and 97 blocked shots. Described as a ferocious but technical defender, Santos helps beef up a depleted San Diego defender corps that has lost starters Scott Martin (head) and Evan McNeley (toe) to injury.

Lower bowl tickets for the general public are available for the Sockers-Bay Area game at (866) 799-GOAL, online at sockers.com, or at the Valley View Casino Center box office on gameday.
