Sockers Place Four on All-PASL Teams

The Professional Arena Soccer League announced the results of league-wide voting for the 2011-2012 All League teams, with four San Diego Sockers honored among the league's top twelve players. Forward Kraig Chiles and midfielder Brian Farber earned First Team honors and received the two highest vote totals in the league, while defender Ze Roberto and goalkeeper Riley Swift each picked up Second Team honors.

Chiles, who set a PASL single-season record with 46 goals scored in 15 games, received 12 of 14 possible First Team votes. The Poway High and SDSU alum scored 66 points on the season, two shy of the all-time league record. Farber, who finished fourth in the PASL with 44 points (27 goals 17 assists) finished second in voting with seven First Team and four Second Team selections.

Roberto, 33, added to his reputation as the league's most tenacious defender during San Diego's undefeated (21-0, 16-0 PASL) run through the regular season, and also contributed to the Sockers' offensive attack with seven goals and four assists. Swift finished a league-best 10-0 as the Sockers' primary goalkeeper, barely losing out on first team honors to Detroit's Vito Lonigro. Swift, 34, posted a 5.86 GAA, his third straight season under 6.00, and is 33-2 in net for the Sockers over the past three campaigns.

Edged out but deserving of honorable mention was Sockers backup keeper Chris Toth, who set a PASL record with a 3.23 GAA starting six games in place of Swift, who missed time during the season for advanced firefighting training in Sacramento.

Detroit Waza, the PASL Eastern Division champion, placed three players on the all-league First Team, with Lonigro joined by defender Costea Decu and midfielder Miki Djerisilo. Anaheim midfielder Adriano DeLima rounds out the First Team. Tijuana forward Cesar Romero, who scored 33 goals in 7 games before signing with Chivas USA of MLS, led the Second Team along with Roberto, Swift, Cincinnati forward Allen Eller, Turlock Express midfielder Jorge Quiroz and forward Jesse Horta.

The PASL season concludes with the battle for the Ron Newman Cup in Del Mar on Friday and Saturday night. The Sockers are the top seed and will host the Kansas Magic (9-8) in the semi-finals on 7:30pm Friday night at the Del Mar Arena. Detroit Waza (14-3) will face Revolucion Tijuana (11-6) in the other semi-final at 5pm. The Ron Newman Cup Championship will take place Saturday at 7:00pm. The Sockers semi-final and the championship game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1700-AM locally, and streamed online at 619Sports.Net.
