San Diego Sockers News Release

SOCKERS STAY PERFECT AT HOME WITH OT WIN

It took a furious fourth quarter comeback and a golden goal in overtime, but the San Diego Sockers overcame a resilient Anaheim Bolts side for a 7-6 victory in the Sockers' home opener last Saturday. Brian Farber completed his hat trick with a rebound header with just under ten minutes remaining in the extra period, after Majell Aterado had tied the game on a restart goal with forty six seconds left in regulation. The Sockers are now a perfect 25-0 in their franchise history at the Del Mar Arena.

POWER PLEASE? MAN ADVANTAGE STRUGGLES

While the Sockers are off to a 2-0 start they do not have their special teams to thank for their record. In fact, San Diego has been uncharacteristically poor in both their power play and penalty killing units so far this season. The Sockers are just 2-for-10 on the power play, a 20% conversion rate. One of the two Sockers power play goals came on a direct kick instead of the run of play. In addition, the Sockers penalty kill has allowed four power play tallies in ten attempts, with another which was scored one second after the man advantage expired. The Sockers do have one short-handed goal.

CALI COMFORT: FORMER COUGARS EXCEL

The Sockers are receiving major contributions from a pair of former California Cougars. While midfielder Brian Farber leads San Diego with five goals in two games, midfielder Majell Aterado is right behind his former teammate with two goals and two assists (four points). Both Farber and Aterado played with the now-defunct Cougars from 2008-2010 in the PASL.

OPPONENT'S PROFILE: Revolucion Tijuana SEASON: 1-1 vs. SOCKERS: first meeting (0-4 in 2010-2011) Last Meeting: SOCKERS 15, Tijuana 10 (2/12)

The closest geographic rival to the Sockers, Revolucion Tijuana has a new look thanks to the departure of owner/forward Eduardo Velez, who signed a free agent deal with San Diego in the offseason. Regulars from the past two seasons Mario Moreno, Edgar Lemus and Martin Amarillas have also yet to play for the team. Revolucion is off to a 1-1 start after splitting a pair of one-goal games against the Phoenix Monsoon in Arizona.

This is the first of three scheduled regular season meetings between San Diego and Tijuana. The two teams will meet again Dec. 9th south of the border.

STAR: Oliver DeLaRosa, forward

A new member of Revolucion Tijuana playing in his first season in the PASL, DeLaRosa made an immediate impression, scoring a pair of goals in each of Revolucion's first two games. DeLaRosa netted the game winner in Tijuana's 6-5 win over the Monsoon.

WATCH OUT FOR: Luis Suarez, defender

Tijuana is well known for their physical style of play, particularly on defense. Luis Suarez has one assist in two games played but leads Revolucion with three fouls. Watch for Suarez and fellow defender and former Socker Guillermo Lucero to try and set a tone with the Sockers' forwards, even if it means a blue card.
