PASL Weekly - Week 3

Published on November 23, 2011 under Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

Uh Oh, It's Magic

11/22/11 - The Detroit Waza's start hasn't been smoke and mirrors, but the Kansas Magic broke their spell on Sunday, holding on for a wild 8-7 win. Kansas improved to 3-0 and moved into a virtual tie for first place in the Eastern Division with Detroit, who fell to 4-1.

It was a game that saw 10 goals and 10 penalties in the second half and almost saw the Magic blow an 8-4 lead in the last two minutes, but Randall Porter's troops ruined Detroit's perfect season, while preserving their own.

Player of the Week

Steve Gillespie, Ohio Vortex

Gillespie has two goals and four assists to help the Vortex beat Cincinnati, 8-6, to end a record 12 game losing streak. Gillespie, 26, is in his third year with the Vortex and currently leads the team with nine points in three games.

Coup Against Kings of the Eastern Division

For three years the Cincinnati Kings reigned supreme in the Eastern Division compiling a 37-9 regular season record heading into last year's season finale and winning three division titles. But since then, including playoffs and two exhibitions against the MISL's Milwaukee Wave, the Kings have now lost eight straight games. The Kings (0-3) currently sit three games behind Detroit and Kansas.

Sockers Still Streaking

While the Vortex ended their record losing streak, the Sockers added to their record winning streak. Saturday's 7-6 OT win over Anaheim pushed their run to 10 straight. The Sockers had to rally from 5-2 down to extend their all-time regular season home record to 17-0. The Kings own the longest home winning streak, winning their first 23 home games before finally dropping one last year.

New Kids on the Turlock

Despite missing their three most prominent players, Jorge Quiroz, Uriel Robledo, and Jorge Fernandez, the Turlock Express beat Phoenix twice to improve to 4-0. Turlock will get a big test from a four game road trip that will include Anaheim, Tijuana, and Tacoma.
