San Diego Sockers News Release

The San Diego Sockers, fourteen-time champions of indoor soccer, announced a rare outdoor exhibition match, to be played September 1st at Balboa Stadium against a Mexico All-Stars team including several players who have extensive experience in Liga MX. The game will be played at 7:00pm.

The four-time defending Professional Arena Soccer League champion Sockers are preparing for the start of their indoor season in early November, but will venture outdoors for the first time since leaving the NASL in 1984.

"We've been looking to play some outdoor soccer and this was a tremendous opportunity for our franchise," said Sockers general manager John Kentera, "We're excited to play some great stars from Mexico and to bring our team to historic Balboa Stadium."

Sockers three-time PASL MVP Kraig Chiles and veteran stars Chiky Luna, Eduardo Velez and Ze Roberto are all expected to play, along with the majority of the active Sockers squad. The Mexico All-Stars team is expected to include Omar Rodriguez (Chivas), Reinaldo Navia (Club America), and Ramiro Briseno (Veracruz) with more to be announced.

"Any time you have an opportunity to bring your team together it's good," said Kentera, "We've got an extremely tight group of players and this gives us just another chance to get together and work on our skills and conditioning."

"This will be a very challenging game for us as we are in our offseason, but we look forward to giving them the best game possible."

Tickets for the September 1st game will go on sale through the Sockers' ticket office (866-799-GOAL) starting on Friday, July 26th and will cost $15. Day-of-game tickets at Balboa Stadium will cost $20.
