Louisville Fire News Release
PLAYOFFS LOCKED UP: With the Fire's 62-40 victory over San Diego last weekend the Fire (8-5) clinched their spot in the ArenaCup playoffs for the second straight season. WR/LB Lawrence Matthews took over the game early on defense with interceptions on the Riptide's first two drives. Matthews' first interception came on the first play from scrimmage at the four yard line and he waltzed into the end zone to give the Fire a 7-0. The Fire defense just got better as the game went on shutting San Diego out in the second and third quarters. Offensively five different receivers caught touchdown passes for the Fire, Dennis Fryzel and Cesare Manning (2), Wendell Williams, Lawrence Matthews and Nate Green (1).
SAUK CREEPING UP ON RECORD: Fire quarterback Matthew Sauk is leading the af2 in touchdown passes with 77 this season. Sauk, who surpassed 300 career touchdowns earlier this season, has his sights set on Tony Zimmerman's record of 93 touchdown passes in a season. Sauk needs to average 6 touchdowns a game to break Zimmerman's record.
