Smith to Join Blue Anchors Pitching Staff

Alexandria-MN - The Alexandria Blue Anchors, a member of the Northwoods League, have announced the signing of right handed pitcher Drew Smith for the 2014 season.

Drew will join the Blue Anchors after his sophomore campaign at Dallas Baptist University, he is originally from Crowley, TX. During his freshman year he made 7 appearances that included 1 start. Following his school season he went and played for the Mat-su Miners of the Alaska Baseball League where Drew was named the #5 prospect by Baseball America.

"I am extremely excited about coming to play in the Northwoods League this summer. I know it is one of the most prestigious summer leagues in the country and I know the organization has had past success. I have heard nothing but great things and I am looking forward to the season." says Smith

He was also named the 92nd best prospect in 2014 by College Baseball Daily.

"We are happy to have a player of Drew's ability coming to Alexandria for the summer," states Kendall Hughson, the team's GM. " Drew is not only a contributor on the mound, he is a kid that works hard in the classroom as well. He is a true student athlete."

Drew was born on September 24, 1993, his parents are DeWayne and Laurie Smith and he is currently a Kinesiology major. During his time in high school Drew graduated in the top 5% of his class and received the Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award.

The Blue Anchors will start the 2014 season on Tuesday May 27th at home versus the Mankato Moondogs.
