Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Slaughter (7-0) of the Continental Indoor Football League defeated the Milwaukee Bonecrushers (2-4) 78-25 in front of 5,538 fans at the Sears Centre Arena on Saturday night. QB Russ Michna put together another strong performance as he went 18-29 for 231 yards passing and six touchdowns. WR Donovan Morgan improved on his CIFL-best WR stats, as he caught seven balls for 122 yards and four touchdowns.
Chicago led from the start, as Michna hooked up with WRs Morgan and Dontrell Jackson for 1st quarter scores to put the team up 14-0. The team built up their lead, as Michna threw three more second-quarter scores to put Chicago up 35-6 at halftime. The Slaughter continued their dominance on both sides of the ball through the rest of the second half.
"We just want to keep getting better," said Michna. "Offensively, it's something we talk about a lot when we are on the bench. That's why we are able to do a great job adjusting on the fly to new situations. It makes a big difference playing at home, having the fans, a familiar field. It helps us keep our heads in the game."
Defensively, DB Ryan Bowers and DB Brandon Fields each had six tackles and an interception, while DL Rob Schroeder recorded three sacks in the game including a safety.
"This is a team with a lot of confidence," said LB DeJuan Alfonzo. "What we do is set team goals for every game. We try to motivate ourselves to play harder, particularly towards the end of the game. It's hard sometimes to stay in there mentally when you are 30 points ahead. But to keep playing the way we do we've had to adjust for that."
The next home game for the Slaughter will be Saturday, May 2, against the Wheeling Wildcats at the Sears Centre Arena at 7:05pm.
