MONROE, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam could not overcome shoddy officiating as they suffered a heartbreaking 114-111 loss to the Snohomish County Explosion in a heated International Basketball league game at the Monroe Sports Arena Saturday.

After falling behind early, the Slam mounted a comeback in the middle stages of the second quarter, taking their first lead of the contest at the 8:07 mark on a pair of free throws by Jacob Stevenson. Bellingham carried their lead into halftime, at 57-54.

The Slam started to pull away in the third quarter and led by as many as ten, thanks to eight points in the frame from Ira Graham, but the Explosion were able to chip away and trailed by just four, at 85-81, going into the fourth quarter.

The Slam led by ten, at 103-93, with four minutes to play when the Explosion got hot from outside, sinking four straight three-pointers to take their first lead since the second quarter, at 105-103. The two teams traded baskets for the next several possessions, with the Slam regaining the lead at 111-110 on a dunk by Lukas Henne with 52 seconds left. But that would be the last basket the Slam would score, as the Explosion were able to win the game at the free throw line with four key makes in the last 30 seconds.

The Slam, who fell to 4-2 on the season, were led by Tyler Amaya, who posted a monster double-double with 24 points and 20 rebounds. Ira Graham and Jacob Stevenson added 19 points apiece.

Snohomish County was led by the 37 points of Devon Greene, who solidified his position as the IBL's leading scorer this season.

The Slam return to Whatcom Pavilion for a re-match with the Explosion on May 1. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
