Slam's second free agent tryout camp successful
July 19, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Bellingham Slam News Release
Bellingham, WA. The ABA Bellingham Slam professional basketball team scheduled to begin play in November held its second and final open tryout camp of the summer on Sunday afternoon. The camp took place at The Basketball Centre in Richmond, British Columbia, the practice facility used by the Vancouver Grizzlies prior to their move to Memphis.
Once again, Head Coach Rob Ridnour and his staff used a variety of tests, individual drills and team scrimmages to assess the talent level of the nearly 30 American and Canadian players who participated. Players standing out at the camp included Lynden native and former California Baptist standout Drew Langstraat and former Western Washington players Stefan Dickason and Jared Stevenson. Also catching the eye of Ridnour's staff were Stanley Ibia, a graduate of the University of Hawaii-Hilo and Mark Arrington, who last played for Edmonds Community College.
The tryout camp was the final of two open tryout camps for the Bellingham Slam. In the upcoming weeks, Ridnour and his staff will now select 25 to 30 players who participated in the first two camps and ask them back to a third invitational tryout camp. That camp will be held in early September in Bellingham at Whatcom Pavilion and will be open to spectators. An exact date will be announced shortly.
