Joliet Slammers News Release

JOLIET, IL- The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy announce three new additions to the 2016 All-Star game lineup, including Slammers Field Manager Jeff Isom who will manage the East Division. Slammers pitchers Spencer Medick and Sean Townsley will also join the team. The Y'All Star game is set for Wednesday, July 16 in Florence, Kentucky.

Isom is in his third season with the Slammers, having joined in November of 2013. The former Pittsburgh Pirates 18th round draft pick out of the Purdue University in 1993 played seven years of professional baseball as a pitcher, before starting his managerial career in 2000 with the Canton Crocodiles (Frontier League).

Isom has now coached or managed 16 seasons in the minor leagues, including five years in the Milwaukee Brewers organization with the West Virginia Power, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, Brevard County Manatees, and Helena Brewers. He has managed nine seasons in the Frontier League. Isom has taken his teams to the playoffs six times and is one of only six managers in Frontier League history that have over 400 career wins. In 2002, he was voted as the Frontier League Manager of the Year.

The 2016 All Star East manager has selected two left-handed pitchers from the Joliet Slammers to join him: Spencer Medick and Sean Townsley.

Medick is currently 5-0 this year for the Slammers and has put up some impressive numbers. While pitching in 55.1 innings, Medick has 28 strikeouts and has allowed 62 hits. He pitched a career high 8.2 innings verses the Rascals on June 24. Medick was the first overall pick in the 2014 Frontier League Draft by the Frontier Greys, and his contract was later purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks where he finished the season in the Arizona League.

Townsley is currently sitting at a 3.80 ERA with 45 innings pitched and 33 strikeouts. The 25-year-old Blacksburg, VA product was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 25th round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft from High Point University where he played his collegiate career.

Medick and Townsley will join first baseman Marc Flores, second baseman Carter Bell, shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez, and outfielder Charlie White, all announced earlier this week.

The Joliet Slammers are 28-20 thus far this season. Slammers have Carter Bell in first place for most RBI with 43 and third place for highest batting average with .349.

The festivities surrounding this year's All-Star event include the induction of the 3rd class of Frontier League Hall of Famers, Bourbon Tasting and Home Run Derby, a Battle of the Sexes against the Chicago Bandits of National Professional Fast pitch and more. Tickets for each event can be purchased at www.florencefreedom.com or by calling the Freedom offices at (859) 594-4487.
