Slam Win Ninth Straight, 136-118

Bellingham Slam News Release

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam received more than half their offensive production from center Blake Poole and guards Jacob Stevenson and Sam Freeman as they rolled to a 136-118 win, their ninth straight, over the International Basketball League All-Stars on Friday night at Whatcom Pavilion.

The trio accounted for 74 points, led by 26 from the hands of Poole.

The All-Stars, comprised of veteran IBL players and rookie talent, were a fill-in team after the originally scheduled opponent, the Santa Barbara Breakers, were unable to fulfill their travel obligations to Friday's contest.

The game was more competitive than expected for much of the first half, with the All-Stars holding serve with the Slam and only allowed a 63-57 Bellingham lead at halftime.

Late in the third quarter, however, the Slam were able to pull away thanks to back-to-back three-pointers from player-coach Tyler Amaya, giving Bellingham a 97-78 lead.

An evenly-played fourth quarter prevented the All-Stars from making a comeback, with the Slam defense coming through to avoid any significant scoring runs.

Poole's 26 points were coupled with a game-high 15 rebounds for yet another double-double. Stevenson ended with 23 while Freeman posted 22 points and a season-high 7 rebounds.

The All-Stars were led by forward Jared Cunningham, who finished with a triple-double of 29 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.

The Slam hit the road for their next game on Saturday against the Seattle Flight, with a 7 p.m. tip-off at North Seattle Community College. Their next home game takes place on June 13 at Blaine High School against the Houston Strikers.
