Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Bellingham Slam used a balanced attack, with six players scoring in double figures, to defeat the Carson Buzz, 112-103 in an American Basketball Association contest Tuesday night at Whatcom Pavilion.
Brandon Hartley's double-double of 28 points and ten rebounds helped the Slam earn their second win over the Buzz this season. Back on December 9, Bellingham prevailed against the Buzz on the road in Los Angeles, 120-100.
Tuesday's rematch was a fast-paced affair, with both teams attempting at least 100 shots, and also featured 14 total lead changes.
The Buzz held a slim one-point lead, at 26-25, after the first quarter before the Slam were able to begin to take control of the game. A flurry of Slam baskets in the final minute of the first half gave Bellingham a ten point advantage, at 58-48, going into halftime.
The second half proved to be closely contested, as the Buzz were able to rally back and take one-point leads on three separate occasions, the last being with 10:13 left to play in the game. The Buzz were unable to draw and closer than five points in the game's final five minutes thanks to clutch free throw shooting by the Slam. The Slam connected on 13 of 14 foul shots down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Jared Stevenson used a 5-for-7 performance from behind the arc to provide 21 points off the bench for the Slam, to complement Hartley's team-leading 28.
Carson's Lamar Gayle led all scorers with 45 points, and also chipped in 15 rebounds.
The same two teams battle in a rematch on Thursday night, with a 7 p.m. tip-off scheduled at Whatcom Pavilion.
