Bellingham Slam News Release
LYNDEN, Wash. - Center Blake Poole finished one assist shy of a triple-double as the Bellingham Slam made easy work of the Seattle Flight, 124-99, in an International Basketball League game at Jake Maberry Gymnasium in Lynden on Friday.
It took Bellingham less than three minutes to give the Lynden fans a true taste of Slam basketball, as they went on a 13-3 run early, capped by an and-one play by Austin Bragg to lead 17-9 midway through the first quarter.
The burst opened up a lead for the Slam that they would not relinquish, as they went on to outscore Seattle in every quarter. Bellingham held a 66-46 lead at halftime.
Seattle was only able to trim the deficit under 20 once in the second half, before the Slam scored 12 straight, thanks in part to a pair of three-pointers from Poole, to make the score 91-57.
With the bench emptied, the Slam used a 16-4 run late to push the lead back over thirty before Seattle mitigated the blowout slightly by scoring the last seven points.
Poole finished with 22 points, 18 rebounds and 9 assists. Guard Morris Anderson was the Slam's leading scorer with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting.
Brandon Adams led all scorers with 28 points for Seattle, which was a last-minute switch as an opponent for the Slam after the originally scheduled foe, the Salem Sabres, were unable to field a team due to injury.
The Slam return to their usual home court on Saturday for a game against the Olympia Reign. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
