Slam return home for final two regular season games
February 25, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM - Nearly a month since their last home game, the Bellingham Slam return to the friendly confines of Whatcom Pavilion on Monday as they take on the Fresno Heatwave in the first of two games that will conclude the Slam's regular season.
The Slam last played at the Pavilion on Feb. 1 when they defeated the Modesto Shockwave, 165-118. Since then, the Slam have criss-crossed the country, playing games in Vermont, Montreal, Canada and Modesto, Calif. before taking on the King County Royals in Seattle last Friday. The Slam complied a 2-4 record during their season-long six game road swing.
Bellingham currently sits atop the American Basketball Association's Western Conference with a 20-10 record, but is only ranked 10th in the latest league power rankings released over the weekend, which are used to determine playoff seedings. While the Slam have clinched a spot in the ABA's 24-team post-season tournament, the team will be looking to advance into the top eight in the power rankings. A top eight finish would assure the Slam a first-round bye and home court advantage in the tournament's second round. As it stands currently, the Slam would host a first round playoff matchup and more than likely play any subsequent games on the road.
Winning their final two home games against Fresno could push the Slam into one of the top eight spots in the power rankings. While the Slam have had success at home, going 12-3 this season at Whatcom Pavilion including two wins against Fresno in December, the Slam were upset by the Heatwave, 109-107, in the two teams' previous matchup on the road in January.
Bellingham and Fresno will get things started on Monday night with a 7 p.m. tip-off set for Whatcom Pavilion. The two teams will then wrap up the regular season with a re-match on Wednesday night, again at 7 p.m. at the Pavilion.
