Slam ends Volcanoes' winning streak in dominant fashion

April 19, 2008 - International Basketball League (IBL) News Release

Bellingham, WA - The Bellingham Slam routed the Vancouver Volcanoes, 162-108, in an up-tempo International Basketball League contest Saturday night in front of a season-high crowd of 710 at Whatcom Pavilion.

After an even opening eight minutes, the Slam took advantage of the injury-riddled and road-weary Volcanoes, the Slam finished the first quarter with a 26-9 run to take a 39-23 lead.

The Slam (5-2) continued to outscore Vancouver in each of the remaining three quarters, eventually building a 75-49 lead at halftime and a 117-82 lead after three quarters. The Volcanoes never trailed by less than 23 points for the entire second half.

Ryan Diggs guided a potent Slam offense with a professional career best 39 points. Chris Ferguson came off the bench to tie a career high of 29 points, with all but two points coming in the fourth quarter.

Lukas Henne contributed another double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds in a contest where every Slam player scored for the first time this season.

Josh Jackson and Porter Troupe led five players in double figures for Vancouver (8-2) with 23 and 22 points, respectively.

The Slam head on the road for two games against the Edmonton Chill on April 26 and 27. The Slam return home to face their arch-rivals, the Snohomish County Explosion, on May 3. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
