MONROE, Wash. - Six players scored in double figures as the Bellingham Slam defeated the Snohomish County Explosion, 115-108, in an International Basketball League contest Saturday night at the Monroe Sports Arena, continuing what has already become an intense rivalry after just two games.

Bellingham (1-1), who started the game down 9-0 after a sluggish start, used a 19-7 run to end the first quarter to claw back into the game, and followed with a 32-point second quarter to build a 13-point halftime lead, at 61-48.

After an evenly-played third quarter, the Explosion worked their way back into the game with a 10-2 run to start the final frame to pull within two with 8:40 left to play. But the Slam quelled Snohomish County's comeback late in the game with a Paul Hafford three-pointer, an Erroll Knight put-back, and a Ryan Diggs jumper on consecutive possessions to push their lead to 11 points and effectively put the game out of reach.

Bellingham stymied the Explosion's usually potent three-point shooting, holding them to a 6-for-27 effort from behind the arc.

Jared Stevenson led the Slam's offensive attack with 23 points, while Ryan Diggs notched 20. Bellingham benefited from a team effort on the boards, with six players grabbing six or more rebounds.

Snohomish County (2-1), hindered by the ejection of their leading scorer Jamaal Miller just 14 minutes into the game, were led by Donald Watts, who scored 26 points and collected 11 rebounds.

The Slam now prepare for their home opener, set for Friday against the Tacoma Jazz. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
