NWSL National Women's Soccer League

Sky Blue FC Welcome the League-Leading Chicago Red Stars to Town on Sunday

June 25, 2015 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release

CHICAGO (June 25, 2015) - It's last versus first when Brittany Cameron and Sky Blue FC welcome Michele Dalton and the league-leading Chicago Red Stars to town on Sunday, June 28 at 6 p.m. ET at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J.

Sky Blue FC enjoyed a longer break than all the other clubs during the group stage of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup as they were the only team not to return to action last week.

But SBFC come into the contest needing to hit the ground running following their 21-day layoff. Depending on results elsewhere in the league this weekend, coach Jim Gabarra's side - who enter Week 11 three points worse off than their nearest competitors - could find themselves adrift at the bottom of the table.

Sky Blue FC is in the midst of a franchise-worst eight-match unbeaten run and have not scored more than a single goal in any contest this season. SBFC have only collected four points from their last seven matches - the fewest by any team in the NWSL during that stretch.

Cameron made eight saves - one off her season-high - in a 3-0 loss to Seattle Reign FC in her side's final game before the World Cup layoff as Sky Blue FC were shutout for the third time this year.

If Cameron and company are going to begin to turn things around, they will need to produce a better effort in the second half against the Red Stars. SBFC comes into the match with the worst goal difference (-6) of any team in the league and will face a Chicago side that is the second best in the same category, with a +3 goal difference after halftime this year.

The Red Stars saw their lead over several teams in the NWSL standings trimmed during Week 10 when their match with the Washington Spirit was abandoned in the 39th minute due to weather. However, coach Rory Dames' team might consider themselves slightly fortunate given that they were trailing 1-0 when the game was called off and were six minutes away from the match becoming official.

As it stands, all stats from the game will not count and the match will need to be rescheduled at a later date.

The game Sunday is the first of three straight away from home for the Red Stars. Chicago is tied with the Houston Dash for the second-best road record in the league, taking 1.25 points per game away from the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex. FC Kansas City leads the league with 1.40 PPG on the road.
