Sky Blue FC to Observe 'Juneteenth'

June 17, 2020 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Sky Blue FC News Release

Harrison, N.J. - On June 19, Sky Blue FC will be closing its offices to observe 'Juneteenth', joining many organizations across the country in recognizing and honoring this date as the effective end of slavery in the United States.

Juneteenth is a celebrated commemoration of June 19, 1865. On that date, Union Soldiers finally arrived in Galveston, Texas - more than two years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation - with news that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were now free. Juneteenth is a universal acknowledgment and celebration of Black Americans.

Sky Blue will continue to demand justice for Black Americans who have been senselessly killed by police brutality. Sky Blue will continue to support the Black Lives Matters movement and the powerful forms of peaceful protests taking place worldwide. Sky Blue continues its commitments to diversity and inclusion, as well as holding ourselves accountable for helping dismantle white supremacy in our communities.
