Sky Blue FC to Host #StayHomeOpener Events Sunday

April 22, 2020 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) - Sky Blue FC News Release

Howell, N.J. Sky Blue FC won't be taking to the field this Sunday at Red Bull Arena in what should have been the club's home-opening match against OL Reign due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although saddened by the unexpected change of events, there will still be plenty of Sky Blue action for supporters to tune in for. The club has a full day of activities planned as part of its #StayHomeOpener events.

Noting the importance of remaining engaged with its supporters, Sky Blue FC General Manager Alyse LaHue had this to say about the event: "While we, unfortunately, aren't able to congregate together Sunday at Red Bull Arena, in what would have undoubtedly been a historic game for our club, we still want to join together with a sense of community to celebrate the day in the best way we can - through online engagement."

Events to take place during the #StayHomeOpener include:

All Day | Sky Blue FC is more than 90 minutes of play between the white lines. We are our supporters - a community that has shown strength and resilience these past few weeks. Share how you do a SBFC game day. Share your tailgate pictures, best goal celebration videos, favorite Sky Blue FC gear, etc., and don't forget to tag us and use "SBFC #StayHomeOpener."

11 a.m - 2 p.m. | Sky Blue will be sharing videos with players, including Kailen Sheridan and Paige Monaghan, reflecting on past games and sharing their gameday routines and superstitions. Stay tuned into SBFC social channels to learn something new about your favorite players presented by Provident Bank.

1:00 p.m. | The first live event of the day kicks off just as any other home game would...with a tailgate! A Digital Tailgate Zoom Session presented by Saker ShopRite with Cloud 9 and Season Ticket Members will be hosted by GM Alyse LaHue and Head Coach Freya Coombe. Sky Blue FC players, including team-captain Sarah Woldmoe, will also be joining. Registration is required and members of these groups will be receiving more information prior to the event.

Woldmoe, a five-year veteran of the club, shared "I'm obviously sad that we can't be at Red Bull Arena Sunday with our fans but I'm excited to see our Season Ticket Members, Cloud 9 and fans digitally." She continued, "I can't wait to see everyone in person as soon as it is safe to do so, and I know that our official home opener this season is going to be fantastic."

3 p.m. | Game time! Sky Blue FC will be battling it out (digitally, of course) against OL Reign. Imani Dorsey & Erica Skroski will be challenging a pair of OL Reign players in a riveting face-off playing the popular digital party game, Fibbage, presented by AVIS. Learn more about Fibbage here. Throw on your SBFC gear and snap a picture of you cheering the squad to a victory!

5 p.m. | Sky Blue FC hosts its second #SBFCeatslocal Dinner and Game night presented by NJM Insurance and centered around the weekly Trivia Hour the club hosts on Sundays. During the first iteration of this event, the Zoom chat was maxed out with 100 participants and over 40 restaurants represented across five different states. Supporters are once again encouraged to support their local community by ordering dinner from a local eatery and join in a Zoom call to play a few rounds of trivia hosted by GM Alyse LaHue and Co-Hosted by defender Gina Lewandowski. Along with one of our other community initiatives, Sky Blue invites those participating to gather their arts and crafts supplies to make "thinking of you" cards for caretakers battling COVID-19. Registration is required to attend the event. Those planning to attend should RSVP here no later than Sunday, April 26 at 2 p.m. ET.

Sky Blue continues to keep the club's supporters at the forefront of its thoughts and aims to keep the community engaged with both staff and players. The club looks forward to being able to return to the pitch, once it is deemed safe to do so, but until then will push forward via many digital initiatives.
