June 21, 2020 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Sky Blue FC News Release
Harrison, N.J. Midfielder Sabrina Flores and Sky Blue FC have agreed to a two-year deal ahead of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Challenge Cup set to kick off at the end of this month. Per team and league policies, further details were not disclosed.
"We are really pleased to welcome Sabrina back to Sky Blue," said Head Coach Freya Coombe. "She has experience playing in Spain, which brings a different tactical challenge and as a result has increased her game understanding. She brings this experience back to the team and we are excited to see her back in a Sky Blue jersey."
The deal will mark the New Jersey native's second contract with Sky Blue FC. While on a National Team Replacement contract, Flores saw time in four matches during the 2019 season.
"It is an amazing feeling to be back with Sky Blue," said Flores. "I'm beyond grateful to be representing this club and my home state of New Jersey again. I can't wait to be out on the pitch in Utah next week for the NWSL Challenge Cup."
Flores, 24, represented Notre Dame University from 2014-18, appearing in 82 games. Splitting time between the backline and midfield, Flores logged five goals and 18 assists throughout her collegiate career. During her final year, she led the Fighting Irish in both minutes played (1,522) and assists (5).
Flores followed up her successful collegiate career spending time in 2018 with LA Galaxy OC of the United Women's Soccer (UWS) league. The All-UWS honoree saw time in eight matches, notching five assists across 716 minutes played.
Flores comes to Sky Blue with several years of international experience under her belt. While competing with the United States Women's U-20 squad, she appeared at the 2015 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship and the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Flores made a federation switch in 2018 after being called into training with the senior Mexico Women's National Team, playing alongside her twin sister Monica.
"Since her stint with Sky Blue in 2019, we have kept in touch with Sabrina and been following her career," said Sky Blue General Manager Alyse LaHue. "She's a true professional, with incredible upside, and we're so happy to have her back with the club again."
Sky Blue will return to competition on Tuesday, June 30, kicking off against OL Reign at 10:00 p.m. ET during the preliminary round of the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup. All preliminary round matches will be streamed on CBS All Access, and fans outside of the U.S. and Canada will be able to watch on Twitch. More details can be found HERE.
