Sky Blue FC Signs Kendall Johnson and Taylor Lytle

Morristown, N.J. ( Monday, March 11, 2013) - Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) announced on Monday the signing of two additional players. Kendall Johnson, the team's second round pick in the NWSL college draft, is a native of Portland, Oregon, and University of Portland Pilot former WCC Defender of the Year. She has been a member of the Under-23 U.S. Women's National Team and was a part of the U.S. Under-20 team that won the 2010 CONCACAF U-20 Women's Championships in Guatemala. She also played at the U-20 Women's World Cup in Germany. She joins former Pilot Sophie Schmidt on the team.

Stated Coach Jim Gabarra, "Kendall is a top level left flank player that can be an attacking defender or left midfielder. She will give us the flexibility to play different systems and have the opportunity to be a player that NWSL helps develop for our national team."

In addition, the team signed discovery player Taylor Lytle, a native of Las Cruces, New Mexico and formerly team captain of Texas Tech, where she became one of the most decorated players in program history. She has been a member of the U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team, and logged experience in youth national camps since the age of 15.

In 2010, Lytle helped the U.S. Under-23 squad to capture a title in the Four Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain before joining the Sky Blue Soccer Club, for its tour in Japan. In 2012, she played with the Pali Blues Soccer Club, two-time Champions of the USL W-League.

"Taylor can play any of the attacking midfield roles and will challenge for playing time, and is a great fit with Sky Blue FC and our desired style of play," stated Coach Gabarra.

Per club and league policy, terms of the players' contracts were not disclosed.

Sky Blue FC will kick off its 2013 NWSL season on Sunday, April 14th, hosting the Western New York Flash at Yurcak Field on the Piscataway campus of Rutgers University. Tickets for Sky Blue FC games are available now, and fans can purchase them by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
