MORRISTOWN, NJ (Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014) - Sky Blue FC announced today that forward Maya Hayes has officially signed with the club with an option for the 2015 season. Hayes was the overall No. 6 pick in the 2014 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft, and the first pick by Sky Blue FC. Per club and league policy, financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

"We are very excited to have signed our first round draft pick Maya Hayes," Sky Blue FC technical director and head coach Jim Gabarra said. "We look forward to Maya's continued development as a player and anticipate some exciting moments this season as her attacking style will really test NWSL defenses."

Hayes, who hails from West Orange, New Jersey, joins the club after an impressive career at Penn State. The three-time NSCAA All-American is one of the most decorated players in program history. She was named a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist three consecutive years, and was a finalist in 2011. Hayes was also a three-time first team All-Big Ten selection, as well as the Forward of the Year in 2011 and 2012.

The New Jersey native ended her time as a Nittany Lion with 71 career-goals, the third most in program history. She is also ranked third in career points with 163.

Hayes is a current member of the U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team pool. Her previous national team experience includes winning the 2012 FIFA U20 World Cup and the 2010 and 2012 CONCACAF U20 Women's Championship.

Prior to Penn State, Hayes was a four-year letterwinner at Newark Academy where she was the N.J. Prep B State Champion her senior year. She scored 92 goals in her high school career - 38 during her senior season - and was a three-time first team All-Conference selection.
