Sky Blue FC News Release
Rochester, N.Y. (Saturday, July 18, 2015) - Sky Blue FC (2-6-4, 10 points) will look to pick up its second consecutive victory when it resumes National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) play on Sunday afternoon, playing a road match with the Western New York Flash (4-5-2, 14 points) at Sahlen's Stadium. Fans who are unable to make it to the game will be able to watch the action live on YouTube.
"Last weekend's win was one of our most complete performances of the season, which is why we were able to secure the three points," said Jim Gabarra, Sky Blue FC Technical Director & Head Coach. "Heading into this match-up on Sunday, we understand the importance of continuing that momentum. If we are able to pick up a win over Western New York on their home soil, it will continue our pathway to reach the playoffs."
Sky Blue FC was able to score the game-winner against Portland last Saturday night in the 52nd minute on a series that started off the feet of midfielder Sarah Killion. The 2015 1st Round Draft Pick put a ball over the top of the defense from the midfield, where defender Maya Hayes gathered by the left corner flag before crossing into the penalty area. Making a perfectly timed run on the distribution was Australian striker Sam Kerr in her first NWSL game of the year, who one-timed a header into the back of the net to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage. That scoreline would then remain until the final whistle.
The Flash were able to get out to a 1-0 lead over Seattle Reign FC in the first half of a match last weekend, but Seattle exploded for four second half goals in an eventual 4-2 result. During the offensive burst, Seattle also broke an NWSL record when it scored three goals in just six minutes and nine seconds.
After Sunday's match-up with Western New York, Sky Blue FC returns home on Saturday, July 25th, hosting the Boston Breakers for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Yurcak Field. Individual game tickets for Sky Blue FC home matches are on sale now and can be purchased online or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
