Sky Blue FC News Release

Tinton Falls, N.J. - Sky Blue FC (6-4-4, 22 points) will look to continue its longest National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) winning streak in two years on Saturday, seeking a fourth consecutive victory when the New Jersey club travels to play a road match with the Washington Spirit (8-3-2, 26 points). The game will be the final fixture for Sky Blue FC before the NWSL takes a break for the 2016 Olympic Games, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

"We are very excited to get down to DC and build upon the momentum we have established in recent weeks," said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. "We are focused on putting forth a better performance than we did last weekend, and we are confident that we will come away with the three points if we are able to do that."

Sky Blue FC and Washington will be playing for the second straight week and fourth time overall in the 2016 season. Sky Blue FC has won each of the last two meetings, including a 1-0 shutout victory last Saturday night at Yurcak Field. In that contest, defender Erin Simon played a ball that split Spirit defender Whitney Church on the sideline and found the feet of a racing Leah Galton in the 24^th minute. The British international then touched her way into the box before reaching the end line, where she turned and rifled a top-shelf ball into the upper netting. That lone tally would be the eventual game-winner, with first-year goalkeeper Caroline Casey recording the clean sheet and her third straight victory in net.

With a win or draw over Washington on Saturday evening, Sky Blue FC will take the season series, which currently sits at 2-1 in its favor. The New Jersey club is now 4-1-3 in its last eight matches and has already equaled its 2015 point total and eclipsed its 2015 win total with six games still remaining in the 2016 season. Washington has suffered just three defeats during its 2016 campaign, with two of those losses being dealt to them by Sky Blue FC.

Historically, Sky Blue FC leads this all-time series with a cumulative 7-3-2 record, including a 3-1-2 tally at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

Sky Blue FC will return home to Yurcak Field after the Olympic Games on Saturday, August 27th, hosting the Chicago Red Stars at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for that match are available now f6&id27795fa02b&ea0e953b4f5), and all fans who eat at Quaker Steak & Lube in Edison f6&id48d96d6898&ea0e953b4f5) before the game will receive free parking for the match.
