Tinton Falls, N.J. - Sky Blue FC (1-1-1, 4 points) will continue its 2016 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) campaign on Saturday night, hosting the Western New York Flash (1-2-0, 3 points) at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway. Kickoff for the contest is set for 7:00 PM ET, and tickets are available now online or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
"We are delighted to come back to New Jersey after having a good road trip a week ago," said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. "After a short turnover, we have been showing fantastic development this week, and we are really excited to build upon the foundation we have already established this season. The fans showed a tremendous amount of excitement and enthusiasm in our home opener, and we now look to reciprocate that message this Saturday on the field by giving them something to truly cheer about."
Sky Blue FC enters this weekend fixture after blanking the Houston Dash last Friday night at BBVA Compass Stadium, 0-0, extending a road unbeaten streak to five games that dates back to the 2015 season. In that match, goalkeeper Caroline Stanley had a stellar performance in net to record the clean sheet, registering seven saves and facing 18 total shots. While Sky Blue FC did see its NWSL-best 12-game run of scoring at least one goal come to an end, the New Jersey club left Houston with a critical road point.
After defeating two-time defending NWSL champion FC Kansas City on the road to open its 2016 season, Western New York has since dropped a pair of matches to the Chicago Red Stars and Washington Spirit. In both of those outings, the Flash has also been shut out, and their only goal thus far this season has been via a week one penalty kick by Samantha Mewis to knock off FC Kansas City, 1-0.
Saturday night marks the first time that these two clubs have played in 2016. In their most recent meeting, Sky Blue FC was handed a heartbreaking loss last August at Yurcak Field, as Elizabeth Eddy was able to put away a diving header in the 89th minute to place her team on the right side of a 2-1 result.
Tickets for Saturday's match are available now, and all fans who eat at Quaker Steak & Lube in Edison before the game will receive free parking for the match.
Half-season, flex and individual tickets for Sky Blue FC are all on sale! For any questions regarding tickets, call the Sky Blue FC tickets department at 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849), and a team representative will be happy to assist you.
