Harrison, NJ - Sky Blue FC has signed midfielder Kenie Wright to a new contract for the 2021 National Women's Soccer League season. Terms of the deal include a one-year contract with a second-year option.
The Mount Laurel, N.J. native was selected with overall pick number 29 out of Rutgers University in the 2019 NWSL College Draft. She made five appearances during the 2019 season and recorded one assist. Wright did not play during 2020 as she sustained a torn ACL during the NWSL Challenge Cup in Utah. She has been rehabbing following a successful surgery shortly after her return home from the Challenge Cup.
"I am so excited to return to Sky Blue for my third year," said Wright. "This season may not have gone as planned, but I have been rehabbing to come back even stronger in 2021. I cannot wait to be back out on the pitch with my teammates!"
"We have watched Kenie work incredibly hard in her recovery over the last several months and are eager for her to return back in full form in 2021," said Sky Blue FC General Manager Alyse LaHue.
Sky Blue FC will begin the 2021 pre-season on February 1, with the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup set to kick-off mid-April. The team is preparing for a 24-match season in 2021, beginning in mid-May.
