Sky Blue FC News Release

Morristown, N.J. (Tuesday, September 1, 2015) - Sky Blue FC (5-7-7, 22 points) will conclude its 2015 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) season on Wednesday, welcoming FC Kansas City (8-6-5, 29 points) to Yurcak Field. Kickoff for the match is slated for 7:00 PM EST.

"For us, this is a chance to play the defending league champion and a team that is fighting for its playoff positioning," said Jim Gabarra, Sky Blue FC Technical Director & Head Coach. "We have an opportunity to go out with a result at home against a really good opponent, and it is important that we maintain the momentum that we have built over the past eight games. If we can do that, we will find ourselves in a position where we can end the season on a high note."

Wednesday night marks just the second meeting of the season between these two clubs, with the first occurring on NWSL Opening Weekend back on April 12th. In that match, Sky Blue FC emerged victorious behind a 29th minute strike from Nadia Nadim, while goalkeeper Brittany Cameron recorded the clean slate in net.

On the opposite side of the field, Sky Blue FC will welcome New Jersey natives Heather O'Reilly and Yael Averbuch back to the Garden State, and the evening will mark the final regular season match for Lauren Holiday. The FC Kansas City midfielder recently announced her soccer retirement plans after the U.S. Women's National Team won the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in July.

Sky Blue FC is coming off a 1-1 draw with NWSL Shield winners Seattle Reign FC this past Saturday night, where host Reign FC leveled the terms in stoppage time via a Kim Little to Jessica Fishlock tally. The late equalizer kept alive a two-year unbeaten streak for Seattle at Memorial Stadium.

Sky Blue FC is currently riding a four-match unbeaten streak and has lost just once in its previous eight games.

FC Kansas City last played this past Thursday when it hosted the Washington Spirit. The result of that fixture was a scoreless draw, extending a five-match unbeaten streak for FC Kansas City.

Individual and group tickets for Wednesday night are on sale now and can be purchased online at tickets.skybluefc.com or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
