Sky Blue FC News Release
Morristown, N.J. (Wednesday, March 4, 2015) - Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) announced today that it has partnered with philanthropic organization KICK ALS! Sky Blue FC and KICK ALS! originally started their relationship in 2011, and today's announcement cements the official partnership between the two organizations.
"The initiative that Tom Fraehmke and the team at KICK ALS! represent is one that we fully support," said Tony Novo, Sky Blue FC President & General Manager. "ALS is such a devastating disease, and we want to do everything we can as an organization to help create more awareness. We look forward to further developing our relationship with KICK ALS! so we can rally more people to join the fight to find a cure."
KICK ALS! was founded by Tom Fraehmke as a Facebook group in 2010, combining his two passions of enjoying soccer and raising awareness of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (aka Lou Gehrig's Disease). His wife, Marlene, lost her 11-year battle with ALS in October of 2014, but he and his son, Christian, continue the fight in her memory.
"As a grassroots organization, KICK ALS! was first welcomed by Sky Blue FC in 2011, and our partnership has steadily grown with each passing and subsequent season," Fraehmke reflected. "Becoming an organizational partner of Sky Blue FC is the next logical step in expanding our cooperation as we plan for this year's KICK ALS! event to benefit a local ALS charity."
In addition to Sky Blue FC, KICK ALS! has put together events with the Philadelphia Union, New York Red Bulls and New York Cosmos to benefit various ALS charitable organizations. KICK ALS! worked with Faith4PALS and the LA Galaxy at the 2011 MLS Cup Final, and they also held a 2012 event in conjunction with a Real Madrid vs. Celtic FC match in Philadelphia. Additionally, the Texas Chapter of the ALS Association held a KICK ALS! event with FC Dallas in 2013.
