Indiana Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, IN-The Indiana Ice announced today that Head Coach Charlie Skjodt has stepped aside from his coaching duties to accept a new position with the club as President of Hockey Operations.
Skjodt has assisted the team in selecting the new GM/Head Coach for the Ice moving forward.
"Charlie has done a remarkable job with this team since he took over late last year and was a cross bar and a hot goaltender away from a Clark Cup final the last two years," said Ice CEO Paul Skjodt. "Considering the depth of coaching in this league, we recognize what he has accomplished in such a short time. Speaking for myself and John-Michael Liles, we are excited to bring him on board to help procure, manage and expand the future of hockey here in Indy for our youth players, whose numbers have been declining over the last decade."
The longtime Indianapolis resident and former Indianapolis Checker pro player finished his coaching time with the Ice with an impressive 39-15-6 record which included a USHL East Division Regular Season title this past season. He also went 7-4 in two playoff years with the Ice and reached the USHL's Tier One Final Four in 2007.
"I truly enjoyed every minute of my experience with the Indiana Ice during our Final Four run last year and again with the season we had this year," said Skjodt. "This was a very tough decision based on other business and family obligations, but I feel strongly that the team is in very good hands with the incoming coach and his staff. We are now excited and focused for the draft, training camp and preparing for another great year of hockey. In closing, I wanted to thank the loyal fans and corporate community for their support this year and look forward to seeing everyone at the rink this season."
The Indiana Ice will announce a new GM and Head Coach later this afternoon.
