Sioux Falls, Lexington and Rock River clinch Division Titles
June 29, 2006 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release
Omaha, NE: United Indoor Football (UIF) will feature six of the ten UIF teams in the post-season. Seeds one and two will receive first round byes and would have seeds 3 versus 6 and 4 versus 5 in the first round. Home field will be awarded to the team with the highest seed in the playoffs. First round action will take place on the weekend of July 14-16. The semi-final round action will feature seed one playing against the lowest remaining seed and seed two taking on the last remaining team. Seeds one and two will both have home field in the second round. This round of games will be played on the weekend of July 21-23. United Bowl II will take place on July 29 at the home of the highest seed remaining of the two final teams.
The Division winners will be awarded seeds one, two and three and will be placed in the correct order according to winning percentage and if needed, tie breakers. Currently through the first 14 weeks of the season, the Sioux Falls Storm (13-0) of the West Division would take the first seed, the Lexington Horsemen (11-2) from the East Division would be the second seed and the third seed would go to the Rock River Raptors (9-4) of the Central Division. All three teams have clinched the division title and one of the top three seeds.
Seeds four, five and six will be given to the final three teams with the highest winning percentage across the board. Teams will be placed in order of record or the use of tie breakers may come into play. Currently Ohio Valley, Omaha and Evansville all stand with a 6-7 record. But with the use of the tie breaker system, we find that the Greyhounds would receive the fourth seed, Omaha would take the fifth and the Evansville BlueCats would round out the playoff picture with the sixth seed; if the playoffs were to begin today.
Below is a step-by-step process of how the playoff structure will take place:
