
Sioux City stops Lancer winning streak, 4-1

A four-goal third period turned the tables on the Lancers Friday, October 29th, at the Mid-America Center, as the Sioux City Musketeers defeated the Lancers 4-1. The win stopped the Lancers' three-game winning streak and was the second win for Sioux City against the Lancers this season.
Trevor Smith put the Lancers in front at 8:40 of the first period, putting in a rebound in front of Sioux City goaltender Jimmy Spratt into the net for a 1-0 lead after one period.
After a scoreless second period, Sioux City got on the scoreboard for the first time, when Dennis McCauley deflected a pass from Brian Bales and Peter Lenes past Lancer goalie Jeff Lerg for a 1-1 tie, just 52 seconds into the final period. It remained that way until the final five minutes of the contest, when Cory Elkins scored the game winning goal from Blake Martin and Kent Bostrom at 16:49. Lenes and Martin added empty net goals at 18:35, and 19:27, respectively, for the final 4-1 score in favor of the Musketeers.
The Lancers outshot the Musketeers 22-21 for the game, but Sioux City outshot the Lancers 9-5 in the third period. Neither team scored on the power play, with the Lancers getting four power-play opportunities, and the Musketeers receiving five. The Lancers took seven penalties for 17 minutes, the Musketeers received six infractions for 15 minutes.
Lerg took his second loss of the season (7-2-0), making 17 saves, while Spratt ran his record to 4-1-1, making 21 saves.
