Nashua Silver Knights News Release

TORRINGTON, CT - The Silver Knights played a little over fourteen innings on Sunday, but little changed in the FCBL race for first place.

Game one was a continuation from a June 25th postponement. The game began with Nashua sporting a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, but the early lead wasn't enough to secure the victory.

Torrington faced some control issues on the mound, issuing two bases-loaded walks in the seventh inning and a third in the eighth. Entering the ninth inning with a 5-4 lead, the Silver Knights turned the ball to seemingly unflappable closer Dylan Maki (Northeastern), who faced some control issues himself. Maki hit a batter, walked a second batter, and surrendered an RBI double to Aaron Nardone (Delaware State). Josh Band (Rollins)hit a walk-off single to secure a 7-6 Torrington victory.

In the nightcap, the Silver Knights turned the ball to recently acquired pitcher Lamarre Rey (Bentley), who promptly tossed a complete game shutout in the seven-inning matchup. Rey allowed three hits, striking out four and walking one.

Nashua did all of their scoring in the fourth inning, plating three runs. An RBI single from third baseman Kyle Neverman (Johns Hopkins) got the scoring started, followed by another bases-loaded walk and an RBI single from Matt Jacobs (UMass-Lowell).

Three runs was plenty for Rey, who kept the Torrington offense off-balance the entire game. The Lynn, Massachusetts product replaced fellow Lynn native Tyler Gauthier, who was removed from the Silver Knights roster due to injury.

The Silver Knights (24-14) remain half a game behind the first place Titans in the FCBL standings. Nashua returns to Holman Stadium on Friday to face the Martha's Vineyard Sharks. Entertainment includes post-game fireworks and the much-anticipated return of Monkey Boy. Tickets are still available by visiting the Holman Stadium box office (M-F 10am-4pm) or ordering online.
