Silver Knights Mourn Loss of Bill Neverett

July 29, 2018 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Nashua Silver Knights News Release

Nashua, NH - The Nashua Silver Knights mourn the loss of Bill Neverett, an avid Nashua baseball fan, fixture of Historic Holman Stadium and major player in the New Hampshire baseball community.

Bill, a native of Nashua, passed away suddenly early Friday morning. He was 81.

He is the father of Silver Knights Manager B.J. Neverett and Tim Neverett, the radio voice of the Boston Red Sox; and, his two beloved daughters Kathie and Nancy.

"Pops was Nashua's number one sports fan, a fixture at Holman Stadium and everyone's friend," Tim notes in his weekly Sunday Nashua Telegraph column.

Since the creation of the Silver Knights in 2011, Bill has been one of Nashua's No. 1 fans who could be seen at almost every game in seat 103N-18. One of the biggest thrills of his life was being able to watch his son, B.J., win the 2017 FCBL Championship crown with his wife sitting next to him.

When Bill sat at Holman to watch B.J. manage the Knights, he would always sit with one of his best friends, Larry Hodge. The two would always second guess his son's managerial decisions.

Most recently he celebrated his 60th Wedding Anniversary at Holman with his wife, Sheila.

Bill never played the game of baseball, but it played a large part in his life. He signed B.J. and Tim up to play from an early age and made sure they were in the best programs with the best coaches.

When B.J. started coaching high school baseball at Nashua High at the age of 27, Bill was consistently at his games, cheering for his son's teams. And whenever he could listen to Tim call a Pirates or Red Sox game, he would.

Bill is survived by his wife Sheila and their four children and their spouses, Kathie and her husband Marty Russo of Franklin, Bill (B.J.) of Nashua, Nancy and her husband Rich Guidoboni of Nashua, and Tim and his wife Jess of Nashua and nine grandchildren, Katie, Erin, Alyssa, Emily, Matt, Kyle, Hannah, Joe and Drew. Bill also leaves behind a great grandchild, Donovan, a brother in law, Peter McArdle and his wife Terry of Merrimack and many other loving extended family members.

"He'll be missed," says B.J. "He talked to everybody and knew everybody. Our Family is doing well. We'll celebrate his life Tuesday."

SERVICES: Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, July 30 from 5-8PM at the Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St., Nashua. A Funeral Mass will take place the following morning on Tuesday, July 31 at 10AM at the St. Christopher Catholic Church, 62 Manchester St., Nashua. Burial will immediately follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Derry Rd., Hudson. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bill's name are encouraged to be made to NH Home Health and Hospice, 7 Executive Park Dr., Merrimack, NH 03054 or to the Amherst Street School PTO, 71 Amherst St., Nashua, NH 03054.
