
SIFL Players of the Week Announced
March 23, 2011 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) News Release
LAKE CHARLES, La. - -The Southern Indoor Football League has announced its players of the week for the opening weekend games of March 18-21.
OFFENSE - Joe Brannen, QB, Abilene Ruff Riders. Brannen threw for 240 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for two more as the Ruff Riders set a franchise single-game record for scoring in their 83-27 victory over the Corpus Christi Hammerheads. Brannen completed 25 of 46 passes and was not intercepted.
DEFENSE - Damien Daniels, DB, Columbus Lions. Daniels had two interceptions, including a 26-yard pick six, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery as the Lions began their defense of the SIFL championship with a 67-20 road victory at Alabama. Columbus' defense registered three touchdowns, including two in the first quarter.
SPECIAL TEAMS - Wes Vergilio,K, Albany Panthers and Craig Camay, K, Trenton Steel. Vergillo's 39-yard field goal as time expired lifted the Panthers to a 30-27 come-from-behind victory over the Louisiana Swashbucklers. Vergilio recovered from missing two PATs by hitting two UNOs and the pressure kick. Camay accounted for 18 points as he hit four field goals, an UNO and 5-5 on PAT for the Steel in a 59-56 loss to the Richmond Raiders.
