LAKE CHARLES, LA (April 19, 2010) - With the meat of the 2010 schedule beginning to kick-in, the Southern Indoor Football League and its five members were in action this past Saturday night for the first time bringing large excitement and scoring to their fans breaking or tying over 40 records.
After spending an off-season trying to find ways to improve the scoring from its inaugural season, the Southern Indoor Football League has to be pleased with the amount of scoring that has taken place the past five weeks.
This past weekend featured high scoring affairs in all three matchups starting with the Columbus Lions (2-1) setting the most points scored in a single game as well as eight individual records that were broken in their 93-12 victory over the North Georgia Bulldogs. In his first start since his collegiate days at Navy, Lions quarterback Chris McCoy tied the leagues passing completion percentage mark of 80% whereas linebacker Ryan Babb took two interceptions back for scores (SIFL record) taking down four individual records including longest interception return (50).
Despite falling to Louisiana Swashbucklers this past Saturday night, Greenville Force (2-1) wide receiver Isaac West broke three single game records with his five touchdown performance scoring over half of his teams points. Greenville quarterback continues to slay the record books as he attributed to 51 total offensive plays while making him and receiver West one of the top quarterback to receiving duo's in the SIFL. The Swashbucklers pulled back to .500 thanks in large part to return man Raymond Harris bringing back two kickoff returns for scores and the defense rounding up four fumble recoveries leading them to their 79-52 win over the Force, both new league records.
In Albany, passing was the theme of the night as quarterbacks and receivers from both the Panthers (2-0) and the Lafayette Wildcatters (0-2) had record breaking nights. Lafayette wide receiver Clyde Edwards tied an individual record for receptions in a game (11) while Panthers receiver John Harris shattered most receiving yards (193). Albany quarterback Cecil Lester continued to butcher opposing defense setting a new record of nine total touchdowns along with 404 total offensive yards.
This weekend, all but one team is in action as the Lafayette Wildcatters continue their trek through the state of Georgia this time visiting the Columbus Lions this Saturday night at 7:30 pm. The Albany Panthers will look to stay in first place when the Greenville Force come riding into the Albany Civic Center for a Sunday afternoon matinee.
